Artist's Statement

A major  influence on my work has been my experience as a modern dancer. With clay and dance there is a flow of form in space. They  both express feelings  and speak to us without words.  For me clay captures movement and suspends it in time.  Another influence was  playing  among ruins in Israel and Egypt when I was a child.  Among fallen columns and fractured mosaic surfaces, I discovered fragments of Roman glass and  shards from clay pots.  Some of my forms are encrusted with  patterns such as unearthed from an archeological site.  Quiet, calm, poised figures,  they are ageless voices from the past.  My hope is that the viewer finds in my work a world with grace, lyricism,  poignancy and play.
